2008 Great American Cleanup: Midlands Makeover Challenge

What projects are eligible?

Projects that promote a safer, cleaner, and more beautiful community within Richland and Lexington Counties,
including, but not limited to:
  • planting trees and flowers,
  • conducting cleanups of neighborhoods, waterways, or dumpsites,
  • cleaning and painting over graffiti
  • recycling projects,
  • creating wildlife habitats or community gardents,
  • storm drain tagging.

  • Columbia Council of Neighborhoods***

***Thanks to a donation from the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods (CCN) in honor of their 30th anniversary, $500 in prize money will be awarded to participating CCN-recognized neighborhoods -- $250 for 1st Place, $150 for 2nd, and $100 for 3rd. CCN neighborhoods must follow all GACMM guidelines to be eliglble for the prizes. Click here for more information.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, May 15 at an awards ceremony in Finlay Park.

How does my group participate?

  • Read the Midlands Makeover Challenge Guidelines
  • Choose a project and location.
  • Recruit volunteers and resources.
  • Submit the GACMM Project Registration Form before conducting your project.
  • Conduct your project.
  • Submit the GACMM Post-Project Summary Form with digital before and after pictures.
