11,000 pounds of litter removed from local roads and waterways on March 1

312 volunteers helped Keep the Midlands Beautiful kickoff the 2008 Great Amercian Cleanup: Midlands Makeover on Saturday, March 1 by participating in 14 different cleanup events held throughout the region. The volunteers contributed more than 900 hours of service and collected more than 10,000 pounds of trash and 1,000 pounds of recyclable materials from local roads and waterways.  Among the bigger items recovered were more than 30 shopping carts (pulled from Gills Creek) 47 tires, a paddle boat, and 3 bicycles.
