Examples of Past Projects (2006 and 2007)
The Chapin Community of Character Service Day Organization transformed the Chapin Town Square Building into a marquis. They landscaped the area, planted trees, added a river rock pathway, and installed a bronze statue.
Volunteers from Forest Lake Presbyterian Church created a wildlife habitat on their property, following the National Wildlife Federation guidelines.
The Irmo High School Civinettes cleaned eight storm drains and spray-painted “only rain down the drain” on them. This project won first place in the environmental category in the Civinette state convention.
The Historic Village Neighborhood Association in Lexington completed a beautification of the Historic Village District in Lexington. This landscaping project features numerous plants and new street signs.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and homeowners removed trash and overgrown foliage throughout an elderly woman’s three-acre property. The area was the site of suspected illegal drug activity, which has reportedly ceased after the cleanup.
The East Central City Consortium in conjunction with Operation Neighborhood cleaned up the Martin Luther King Neighborhood. Volunteers removed 270 bags of trash, cut overgrown lots, inspected abandoned homes, repaired streetlights, and painted hydrants and street curbs.
50 volunteers organized by the Irmo Arbor Day Committee cleaned four miles of roadway and several elderly residents’ yards. The effort helped raise awareness of beautification projects in the community.
