Thompson, Nancy (Sumter High School Environmental Center)
Mentor for: Creation of outdoor learning sites of any size (including locations, organisms present, activities to use, etc.); creation and use of home composters; creation & location of butterfly gardens; creation & location of Carolina fence gardens
Nancy maintains Sumter High School's (SHS) 35-acre Environmental Center and coordinates the use of the facility by student and outside groups. She is a retired high school environmental science teacher from SHS with 29 years experience. Nancy has a BS from Clemson University and MEd from University of South Carolina. Nancy has received numerous honors and awards, including the SC Conservation District Environmental Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Environmental Educator, Environmental Education Association of SC. Nancy says that most of her interests revolve around being outside - yard work, pruning, gardening, insects, and nature in general.
