There will be two mandatory Saturday events — a workshop in October 2010 and a gathering in spring 2011.  All students accepted for the 2010-2011 Student Advisory Board and SAB Leadership Council are expected to attend both events.

Additionally:
Members of the Student Advisory Board are also expected to:

  • participate in at least two Keep the Midlands Beautiful service projects (minimum of six volunteer service hours) between September 2010 and May 2011; and
  • support and attend projects and events planned by the SAB Leadership Council.

Members of the Student Advisory Board Leadership Council must additionally:

  • attend eight monthly SAB Leadership Council meetings on Saturdays beginning in August 2010;
  • help plan speakers and content for the October 2010 Student Advisory Board workshop;
  • develop, recruit volunteers, and implement at least one special group project; and
  • help plan and host the 2011 Spring Student Advisory Board event

Note: After 2 unexcused absences, Leadership Council members will be removed from their position and replaced by an alternate.

All participants must secure their own transportation to and from all meetings and events.

How to Participate

Applications are required.  Please submit the application form and required waiver to Keep the Midlands Beautiful by Friday, April 30, 2010.  Leadership Council applicants may be invited for an interview or phone interview.  Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by May 14.

The 2010-2011 Student Advisory Board will be comprised of up to 60 students from Richland County School Districts 1 and 2, Lexington Districts 1-3, and Richland/Lexington District 5.  The Leadership Council will be comprised of up to 12 students.  All students will serve on the board for the 2010-2011 school year.  Student Advisory Board and Student Advisory Board Leadership Council members will be selected on an individual basis; however, care will be taken to achieve a balance in the schools represented.
